GOAL AND OBJECTIVES
The philosophy underlying the Diploma in Social Work programme is to produce a crop of graduates equipped with appropriate knowledge to make their contribution to the development of Nigeria, Africa and the global community, having been exposed to a broad foundation of knowledge in the field of Social Sciences in general and in the various sub-fields of Social Work in particular.
The major aims and objectives of a Diploma in Social Work are to:
- To inculcate into prospective practitioners the theoretical and research traditions relevant to problem identification, social policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and social work services for the solution of social problems especially within the economic, social and political contexts such as obtained in Nigeria in particular and developing countries in general;
- To contribute to the development of high-level manpower in the country in the area of social development and social services administration that would fit into the civil service of the nation and non-governmental organizations, locally and internationally;
- Provide students with broad and well balanced knowledge of social work theories and methods;
